I decided to create my college on my wall. This collage best depicts my family and qualities of my family. There are pictures of my mother and father, cousins and aunts, and my grandmother. There are pictures of flowers that represent the birth months of my family members, myself included. I placed a dreamcatcher that my grandmother made in this collage because I am Native American (White Earth Tribe). My grandmother and great aunts grew up in the 70s and loved fashion. There are band flyers on my wall because I listen to them with my family. My father is black and we both are activists. BLACK LIVES MATTER!
Title: RESISTANCE
This is a symbol I made that represents resistance. Many things inspired me to create this symbol, including the Women’s March. This symbol carries many values to it. The fist represents resistance. Why? Because the Democratic party believes in democracy and equality for all. I shaded in the fist to make the skin tone darker, like mine. The pink equality sign stands for equality for ALL women (intersectional). The shading represents what this country was built off of and who the land belongs to: Native Americans and Black folk. There are lines (roots) at the bottom of the fist. Those represent the roots of America. Which brings us to the giant equal sign below the giant fist. The equal sign indicates that ALL humans are equal and should be treated as equals. The outlining of the fist represents unity. We all should unite. I truly enjoyed creating this art piece. It made me emotional because I was thinking about all the hardships people are facing. It hard emotionally, but it was easy to create.
